There are a few questions in life that I find myself searching for the answer to on a regular basis. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Why to they call it a hot water heater when you're heating cold water? Why our county "powers that be" allow my neighbors to openly burn giant gob piles of what we ASSUME is only yard waste? There are a few good reason why I feel that there should NOT be open burning allowed in unincorporated areas of the county;
1- The risk of one of the "gob plie" fires getting out of hand and starting a forest fire (or any other kind of fire uncontrollable with a garden hose is VERY REAL !
2- Ozone depletion.
3- That crap stinks up the WHOLE neighborhood! Try opening the windows on a nice day when someone is burning a "gob pile" in your vicinity.....whew!!!!
4- If you, or someone in your home, has allergies to the smoke you CANNOT enjoy going outside your house to enjoy any activity in your yard or neighborhood!
5- Our Horry County Solid Waste Authority offers FREE disposal of your yard clippings simply by taking them to one of their drop-off sites. Brilliant!!!
Please tell me what you think about stopping open burning in the unincorporated areas of Horry County. Until they outlaw it, my advise is invest in a respirator for you and the rest of the family..........
