This story makes me so mad! A guy in Lexington, KY named Gary Thompson pulls in $100,000 a year...from PANHANDLING. He pretends to be mentally challenged, and goes around in a wheelchair to get sympathy and money from people. He was confronted by a local news station about it, and in the interview he laughed and said he doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. This story reminded me of an investigation we did in Cedar Rapids, IA called "Pandhandlers Secret." We, at CBS 2, followed a guy around for a week and found that after begging on the street for money he drove home every night to his palatial house, in his new car, with bags full of groceries. We too questioned him on camera and he never apologized and to this day you can still find him pandhandling on the same street corner. Just be aware that these type of people are lurking on the streets - taking your hard earned money - not working - and living a cushy life on your dime.
